This song came about after playing the video game "Life Is Strange" where supposedly your actions have consequences that matter. In the game, sadly they don't and it's a bit of a let down in concept, but I took themes from that and put them to this song. It's actually all improvised in studio.
lyrics
Life is strange for the everyday hero,
Life is strange but I won't let go,
Life is strange when you're less than zero,
Life is strange for the everyday hero.
Life is strange, life is strange,
Life is strange, life is strange for the everyday hero.
I saved you about a dozen times,
But I never knew at all.
I thought I'd say a heroic line
Before catching you as you fall.
But I guess life don't work like that,
It's never the time or place
To do something quite so exact,
And there's not scratch on your face.
Life is strange for the everyday hero,
Life is strange but I won't let go,
Life is strange when you're less than zero,
Life is strange for the everyday hero.
Life is strange, life is strange,
Life is strange, life is strange for the everyday hero
You still save me every single day
I think it's the same for you
And that we have found a way
To be everyday heroes too.
To be everyday heroes too.
You still save me every single day.
Life is strange for the everyday hero,
Life is strange but I won't let go,
Life is strange when you're less than zero,
Life is strange for the everyday hero.
Life is strange, life is strange,
Life is strange, life is strange for the everyday hero

It's rooted in psychedelia but incorporates so many genres that it doesn't really seem too definable. But it's ok with that.
Despite being a kiwi band the songwriter is actually rather English, so whenever he sings you'd be hard pressed to go "wow, those kiwis huh". Still, New Zealand-ish.
